The sun produces massive amounts of heat that are transmitted all the way down to the earth’s surface. When the sun’s rays hit the earth’s surface the intensity of the heat directly from the sun just isn’t as hot as a result of a lot of the heat is rerouted before it reaches the earth’s atmosphere. When the sun is scorching, it’s summer time and we think that it couldn’t get a lot hotter because the mid day sun makes you run for shade, but it may get hotter if it wasn’t rerouted.
